Home Grown Talent in Amsterdam

Pictures of the artists on arrival at schiphol, Amsterdam Airport Friday 1 April 2010 met by the promoters.

Amsterdam is becoming a Mecca of sorts for Ugandan artists. In 2003 Ragga Dee opened the way with a show in Amsterdam at the Grand Cafe. In 2005, Halima Namakula had a concert at the same venue. Up to 2009, many shows were organised, but to the disappointment of Ugandans, the artists never turned up. During that time Chameleone was advertised 3 times, but never showed up.

Then in 2009, under the able organisation of Eddie Bukenya, the flood gate was opened. First in was General Mega Dee and Sweet Kid. They were followed by Juliana, Radio and Weasle, Bobi Wine, Butcherman, Nubian Lee and Mickie Wine. Chameleone closed the year with his controversial show which almost did not take place because of fears of him being kidnapped.

This Easter, Radio, Weasle, Juliana Kanyomozi, Ray C, Paddy Dee , Boy Jodan.Nako 2 Nako will entertain Ugandans at the supposedly renovated cafe de Legmeer in Uithoorn near Amsterdam on Easter Sunday 4 April 2010. Note that within a period of one year, Radio, Weasal and Juliana are again in Amsterdam which is unusual for artists.

I am proud to have been part (though unannounced) of the organisation of these tours by Uganda artists. Pearl of Africa, the organisation of Ugandans in the Netherlands which I head uses its online forum to inform the over 800 contacts in its data base about these tours at no charge any time and all the time.

I would like to give the reading public an objective report of the concerts like I have always done
and hopefully Eddie will this time give us the opportunity to interview the artists.
