Cookie Thief!

It will certainly make you stop and think! I am ashamed to say that this sounds just like something I would do!

The woman arrived
At an airport one night
With several long hours
Before her flight.

She hunted for a book
In the airport shop,
Bought a bag of cookies
And found a place to drop.

She was engrossed in her book
But happened to see,
That the man sitting beside her,
As bold as could be,
Grabbed a cookie or two
From the bag in between,
Which she tried to ignore
To avoid a scene.

So she munched the cookies
And watched the clock,
As the gutsy cookie thief
Diminished her stock.

She was getting more irritated
As the minutes ticked by,
Thinking, "If I wasn't so nice,
I would blacken his eye."

With each cookie she took,
He took one too,
When only one was left,
She wondered what he would do.
With a smile on his face
,
And a nervous laugh,
He took the last cookie
And broke it in half.

He offered her half,
As he ate the other,
She snatched it from him
And thought... ooh, brother!

This guy has some nerve
And he's also rude,
Why he didn't even show
Any gratitude!

She had never known
When she had been so galled,
And sighed with relief
When her flight was called.

She gathered her belongings
And headed to the gate,
Refusing to look back
At the thieving ingrate.

She boarded the plane,
And sank in her seat,
Then she sought her book,
Which was almost complete.

As she reached in her baggage,
She gasped with surprise,
There was her bag of cookies,
In front of her eyes.

If mine are here,
She moaned in despair,
The others were his,
And he tried to share.
Too late to apologize
,
She realized with grief,
That she was the rude one,
The ingrate, the thief!

How many times have we absolutely known that something was a certain way, only to discover later that what we believed to be true...was not?

Keep An Open Mind And An Open Heart, Because...... You Just Never Know...... Ya might be eating someone else's cookies!"

Confessions of a Married Couple

Once there was a couple in their mid forties walking through a
bush path and they came across a patch of Mushroom-Husband insisted it was
the non poisonous one while the wife was adamant this was the lethal stuff.

Husband carried on to pick the mushroom and consoled the wife: "What we
will do is we will cook the stuff and feed it to the dog if the dog dies then we throw it away but if the dog is ok then we will also eat it. They got home and fed the mushroom after cooking it to the dog, it was the happiest dog in the village for a full four hours. They then proceeded to eat the mushroom themselves.

Just as they finished, their son run into the room and announced in a hurry the death of the dog and he ran out. The two parents looked at each other and tears rolled down their cheeks, the husband then announced:

"My wife I should have listened to you, anyway seeing we are going to die I need to rest in peace and make sure I have been honest with you. You see that lady from next door has been my part time since we moved in and we meet in the garden every Sunday, when your sister came for x-mas and you had too much wine and passed out I slept with her too, your mother too but only once last year on new year's eve."

With tears in her eyes the wife says, "Its ok my darling that was all weaknesses of the flesh I have forgiven you, but you must listen to me too, each time I go to the butchery I always bring a lot of meat, well its because our second son is the butcher's child, as much as you have slept with the lady next door I also sleep with the husband on Saturday evenings when you are out with the boys, and lastly since we got married 20 years ago I have never had an orgasm from you. Both had mixed emotions hatred, regret but their consolation was they were dying without any secrets so the tears flowed as thy awaited their end......

Their son then run into the room again and looked at the parents weeping he then commented: "My God!!, I didn't realise the two of you loved the dog that much, anyway the guy whose car ran over the dog says he can buy us another one!!!!!!!!!!!"

Uganda’s non Coffee Drinking Culture

According to Apollo Kamugisha, the principal development officer of Uganda Coffee Development Authority, Uganda is the lead producer of high quality Robusta beans in the world. Indigenous to Uganda and the Congo, Robusta coffee is grown at high altitude in volcanic soil and wet climates.

Uganda exported about 2.7 million bags of coffee worth US$257 million in 2007, which was about $87 million more than the previous year (2006).

When we were growing up during the Amin’s regime, coffee was fetching 10 times as much. If I remember right Uganda was officially exporting around 1.5 million bags of coffee per year and earning over US $ 1.5billion! Note that nearly twice the production now is earning the country one sixth of what half the production was earning 30 years ago.

No wonder that time, there was coffee smuggling. Peasants in Busoga and other eastern Uganda districts used to smuggle coffee to Kenya and earn millions of shillings. We actually used to admire our former schoolmates who dropped out of school. They could afford radio cassettes, several wives and magendo (smuggled) beer! They used to dress in the latest bell-bottom trousers, slim fit shirts and platform (then called bongo) shoes. Meanwhile, we were slaving away at school!

Uganda is Africa’s leading producer of coffee, and among the leading 10 producers worldwide. However, coffee drinkers in Uganda are minimal. I remember, while in secondary school and university, my friends and I used it to keep us awake as we revised.

After university, coffee was completely forgotten. While at the Weekly Topic, my first and only employer, only Tea was served. When I broke off, to start my own company, I continued with the habit of serving tea.

When I migrated to the Netherlands, I continued my tea drinking habits, but somewhere along the way, coffee became part of me. Now, I can’t begin a day without a cup of coffee.

Recently, when I was in Uganda, I was glad to see that the Uganda Coffee Development Authority was encouraging wanainchi (citizens) to drink coffee. Posters were put up at leading supermarkets and other public places depicting the advantages of drinking coffee.

Personally, I think this effort will not bare fruit unless the coffee is brewed and served free to the people in the traditional way. We don’t have to re-invent the wheel, but when you look at the way the Ethiopians market their traditional coffee you get embarrassed convincing people to drink Uganda coffee.

We have now gone a long way in producing exportable coffee through Good African Coffee and other exporters. One can now get internationally recognized imported or local coffee flavors. Personally, I changed from a tea drinking to a coffee drinking culture.

I would be lost without a cup of coffee; I love a cappuccino first thing in the morning, followed by fruits like pears, kiwis and bananas. I drink coffee the rest of the day endlessly. I am now impressed by the government efforts to promote a coffee drinking culture.

Thus I do support the government initiative to promote a coffee drinking culture in Uganda.

Human sacrifice cases 2007 - 2009

Image from: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/8444047.stm

Many children in Uganda are being murdered and used as human sacrifice in wichcraft. It is believed that fgor one to get riches, human sacrifice is a requirement. It is now common in Uganda for parents and/or relatives to abduct children including their own to be used by witchdoctors to create wealth. Children are known to go missing on the way from or to school or a well. Sometimes, their remains are found without a head, breasts, tongue and or private parts.

Almost all the cases of child sacrifice have revolved around witchcraft. The child sacrifices were carried out by witchdoctors or by their clients who have been advised or ordered to do so by witchdoctors, traditional healers, astrologists, traditional medicine men or cult leaders. (It is important to note that all witchdoctors are traditional healers but NOT all traditional healers or herbalists are witchdoctors and many of them do not sacrifice children).

Such sacrifices are purportedly to appease and invoke gods or spirits or ancestors to use their supernatural abilities to carry out the wishes of the witchdoctor or his or her clients. Such wishes could be the need for healing, protection against enemies or calamities or for riches, prosperity and success. Colored or Not?

A black man walks into a cafe one early morning and noticed that he was the only black man there.

As he sat down, he noticed a white man behind him.

The white man said, "Colored people are not allowed here."

The black man turned around and stood up. He then said:

"When I was born I was black,"

"When I grew up I was black,"

"When I'm sick I'm black,"

"When I go in the sun I'm black,"

"When I'm cold I'm black,"

"When I die I'll be black."

"But you sir..."

"When you're born you're pink,"

"When you grow up you're white,"

"When you're sick, you're green,"

"When you go in the sun you turn red,"

"When you're cold you turn blue,"

"And when you die you turn purple."

"And you have the nerve to call me colored"

The black man then sat back down and the white man walked away embarressed...

Pass this on and help erase racism

CHILDREN Shall be CHILDREN

To those of us who have children in our lives, whether they are our own, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or students...here is something to make you chuckle.

Whenever your children are out of control, you can take comfort from the thought that even God's omnipotence did not extend to His own children. After creating heaven and earth, God created Adam and Eve. And the first thing he said was "DON'T!" "Don't what?" Adam replied. "Don't eat the forbidden fruit." God said.

"Forbidden fruit? We have forbidden fruit? Hey Eve..we have forbidden fruit!"

"No Way!"
 "Yes way!"

"Do NOT eat the fruit! "said God.

"Why?"
"Because I am your Father and I said so!"

God replied, wondering why He hadn't stopped creation after making the elephants.

A few minutes later, God saw His children having an apple break and He was ticked!

"Didn't I tell you not to eat the fruit?" God asked.

"Uh huh," Adam replied.

"Then why did you?" said the Father.

"I don't know," said Eve.

"She started it!" Adam said.

"Did not!"

"Did too!"

"DID NOT!"

Having had it with the two of them, God's punishment was that Adam and Eve
should have children of their own.

Thus the pattern was set and it has never changed.

BUT THERE IS REASSURANCE IN THE STORY!

If you have persistently and lovingly tried to give children wisdom
and they haven't taken it, don't be hard on yourself.

If God had trouble raising children, what makes you think it would
be a piece of cake for you?

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT!

 1. You spend the first two years of their life teaching them to
walk and talk. Then you spend the next sixteen telling them to sit
down and shut up.

2. Grandchildren are God's reward for not killing your own children.

3. Mothers of teens now know why some animals eat their young.

4. Children seldom misquote you. In fact, they usually repeat word for word what you shouldn't have said.
5. The main purpose of holding children's parties is to remind yourself that there are children more awful than your own.
6. We childproofed our homes, but they are still getting in.

ADVICE FOR THE DAY:

 Be nice to your kids.
They will choose your nursing home one day.

 AND FINALLY:
IF YOU HAVE A LOT OF TENSION
 AND YOU GET A HEADACHE,
 DO WHAT IT SAYS
 ON THE ASPIRIN BOTTLE:
 "TAKE TWO ASPIRIN"
 AND "KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN"!!!!!
